Cedric is without a single need – other than his insatiable desire for women. During his 20 year class reunion weekend, in walks his blast from the past. Annette Miller, the only woman who ever had the ability to melt Cedric in the palm of her hands. He shimmers like a rare zirconium as he begins to go back down memory land about what could have been. Annette appears to be like the finest of all wines that has gotten better with age. Even though it’s been nine years since they last saw each other, there is definitely some chemistry in the air, but here in lies the problem, they are both MARRIED.

It doesn’t help that his wife seems to have more passion to please God than her husband coupled with the fact that she is still jealous of the relationship Cedric and Annette once shared. Cedric makes a vital decision to step out and see Annette once last time to bring closure to their past. Was it all worth it when his wife Stephanie confronts him for lying about his whereabouts?

What words do you yearn to hear when even the truth hurts? How can Cedric begin to regain the trust from the woman that has loved him all her life? When does tension leave the room when shared by the mother and mother in law over hurt feeling of circumstantial evidence brought on by Cedric?

The Lord Will Make a Way is an inspirational stage play with a message of hope while offering guidance on how to deal with difficult situations in the midst of a storm when you can’t see your way out.

Full of twists and unexpected turns this play goes to the core and shows the effects of what happens when we find ourselves in the wrong place at the wrong time after making a bad decision. The Lord Will Make a Way has something for everyone and is sure to inspire as well as entertain.

We had about 12 people altogether. Patty, her friend Judy, me, and the Savols (Michael, Cathy, Eddie, Stacy, Janet, Edgar, Grace, and two aunts).

Scott came with Kenny and a DJ. They set up the gear at the corner of the restaurant.

Kenny sang a few songs to warm up the environment, then it’s Scott’s turn. He started with Louis Armstrong “A Wonderful World”, followed by at least a dozen ballads from the 70s and 80s. After a short break, Scott sang another 7 or 8 songs.

“Oz, the musical,” a contemporary musical treatment of the popular L. Frank Baum story “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” will be staged at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 and 30 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre, 1501 Mac Davis Lane.

The original musical was written by Plainview native Todrick D. Hall.

Direction and choreography also are by Hall, who danced with Ballet Lubbock at age 9 under artistic director Yvonne Racz, and, more recently, appeared in the Broadway musical “The Color Purple.”

The play’s stars, said Hall, will include four former “American Idol” participants:

• Mikalah Gordon as Dorothy. She was the 11th-place finalist on the fourth season. She has been signed to a development deal with Warner Bros., and has been compared to Fran Drescher and Bette Midler.

• Scott Savol as the Lion. He was the fifth-place finalist on the fourth season.

• Rickey Smith as the Tinman. He was the eighth-place finalist on the second season.

• Vonzell Solomon as Glinda. She was the third-place finalist on the fourth season. Now CEO of independent record label Melodic Records; before starting the company, she was the highest finishing “American Idol” contestant not to receive a recording contract afterward.

In addition, hundreds of Lubbock and area children have been cast as Munchkins and in other small roles.

Gordon, Savol, Smith and Solomon are expected to arrive in Lubbock on Aug. 25, and begin rehearsals on Aug. 26 with local actors.

The play includes 13 original pieces of music.

Reserved seats for “Oz, the musical” are $23.50 (includes $3.50 service charge).

A portion of the production’s proceeds will be used by production company Force of Rhythm to finance scholarships for four cast members for one year’s tuition to the Hub Performing Arts School in Lubbock.

Hall said that another portion of nightly proceeds will be “used to start a company that will allow children all over the United States and Canada to perform this musical at their community theater, church or high school.”

He added that he wrote the first draft of “Oz, the musical” when he was 17.

Since then, said Hall, “The musical has been performed more than 50 times in nine cities, including New York; St. George, Utah; Bedford; Fort Worth; Gainesville; Plainview; and Stephenville.”
